In 2019, Mavisakalyan and Tarverdi examined the legislatures of 91 countries and its influence on climate change policies. They especially studied the impact of female representation on the stringency of those policies. They found that gender identity impacts the policies implemented by national parliaments and that a higher representation of females in parliaments result in lower carbon dioxide emissions of those respective countries.
