unwilling

did we not deserve you
a gentle stroke through our hair
a hug or a few heartfelt words

did we not deserve your attention
a voice in your arena
political rights or representation

did you look into the future
and think they can do without
fresh water, the songs of a bird

did you try dear ancestors
and fail to your adversaries
or just relent and join the easy road

all these questions haunt my mind
as my family constellation remains a mess
unclear whether it is you or I unwilling to heal

Notes

This poem builds on Roman Krznaric book The Good Ancestor and it investigates how a 7th generation person, experiencing all these global warming driven impacts on a daily basis, would come to peace, or not, with the ancestral inaction.
