teenage striker girl
she does insta for climate
you reply with porn
she criticizes less activism
you hack her family's phones
she sits in front of state buildings
you intimidate her (and her mother)
she shares a protest sign
you go creepy searching old stuff
subjected to dark enemies
she continues to fight
she does insta for climate
you reply with porn
she criticizes less activism
you hack her family's phones
she sits in front of state buildings
you intimidate her (and her mother)
she shares a protest sign
you go creepy searching old stuff
subjected to dark enemies
she continues to fight
Notes
In September 2019, Zahra Hirji, a journalist from BuzzFeed News, published the article “Teenage girls are leading the climate movement — and getting attacked for it.” It features the stories of several climate activists, how they use social media, and how they and their parents work to minimize the negative consequences of going public with their activism. This poem revisits some of the attacks they faced and the fact that, despite everything, they keep their activism alive.
