leading the way

denial doesn't matter
neither does the activists' swagger
the war is fought between those who act and those who don't
between those who delay, betray, downplay
and those who act every single day
we are beyond denial
whether you act for the economy
on behalf of future generations, the 7th generation
or your beloved glacier
I don't care
whether you protest or not
it's about your ballot and individual choices
about millions of voices leading the way
with that one fact, they act

Notes

In the end, it is about the dichotomy between those who act on the climate crisis and those who don’t. Jonathan Foer describes this in Chapter 4 of his book We Are The Weather. This poem explores climate denail and the quest to act.
