climate action lobbyist

I walk the hallways of power
distinguish the melodies of their floors
I talk, convince, seduce, and threat
influencing word by word

my enemies follow every step I take
ghosts enter the same rooms I left disappointed
leaving greens to the few

I allow myself to be soothed
imaginary voices say “at least you tried”

straighten my tie

I create fact-based sanctuaries
surviving fake trending storms

the ghosts are plenty and relentless
readjusting word by word
tightening their puppets blinkers

I walk the hallways of power
distinguish the melodies of their floors
I talk, seduce, and threat
until my words aren't changed any more

Notes

This poem explores how lobbyists working on climate action might feel when they see the fossil fuel ghosts --lobbyists hired to represent the fossil fuel interests best-- entering the same office they just left.
