beyond imagination

the implications are just so many
environmental
economical
political
diplomatic
too often I hear only those

when do we start
embracing
healing our
spiritual
emotional
moral
cultural
sacred
religious implications
Notes

In 2019, I attended a lecture on indigenous views on climate change. Two spiritual leaders, Nainoa Thompson, Native Hawaiian navigator, and Angaangaq Angakkorsuaq, Eskimo-Kalaallit Elder from Greenland, reflected on their traditions, spiritual practices, and the vast array of challenges humanity faces due to global warming. They both addressed the need of our leadership to look beyond the dominating political, economic, and technical views when addressing global warming. Müller (2021) makes the comment that “Stories of ruinous droughts abound in sacred texts. Show how these pale in comparison to what climate change will bring.” This poem highlights some underexposed areas of global warming’s implications.
