Lady Justice

I, the poor, just suffer
on your salon table reports on unequal impacts
another harvest lost
a devastating storm, our flooded home
human rights, a beautiful discussion over dinner

I, the poor, just suffer
increasingly impacted
dying young my redemption

Lady Justice is not impressed

Notes

In 2018, Robinson and Shine published their perspective on how to achieve climate justice pathways. They link climate justice to human rights and development “to achieve a human-centred approach, safeguarding the rights of the most vulnerable people and sharing the burdens and benefits of climate change and its impacts equitably and fairly.” This poem explores whether Lady Justice is impressed by the current efforts made towards climate justice.
